Perhaps covered in the longer piece, but it's also possible that DMT is simply triggering the feeling — neither veridical or nonveridical, if I understand those correctly — of familiarity without any actual mnemonic attachments. Then in combination with the hallucinatory state, creates deja vu associated with imagery that is not actually familiar. Associative more than causative. I know people who use it and call it the god molecule. It's fascinating, but I lean toward the idea that our emotional state is easily accessible and hackable and it seems likely that we're pulling those levers more than we are connecting to a deeper cosmic consciousness.
I wrote the exact words, “I’ve been here before” in a journal I had by my side during my very first Ayahuasca experience. Nearly 5 years later, I still get chills when I reflect deeply on it. Honestly, it was so stunning and absolutely disorienting that it took me nearly 2 years before I could think about it without trembling. I’ve never met anyone who has shared this profound experience, but I’d love to talk with anyone who has.
I had an experience similar to what many describe under the effect of hallucinogenic drugs, or what seems to be described here, during a therapy session during which I was induced to have an experience of dying. I immediately found myself in the most peaceful place without time or space, with a feeling of absolute peace and contentment, feeling an absolute lack of anything missing. Everyone/ everything was with me, unlike in this realm where something is always missing. I think this is what we experience before and after we exist in this current realm, and what we can connect with in certain instances. These scientists will not understand the experiences because they have a priori excluded this possibility.
I think there is an intermediate possibility overlooked here. I tend to think of these incredibly potent experiences with DMT that literally feel like you get transported to a different reality…as conjuring the mental state of infancy. That is, it is totally deprogramming, wiping away preconceived ideas and conception overlayed on mental processes. This is particularly acute in regards to anything self referential, as the brain’s default mode network is shut down. So a feeling of “I’ve been here before” may be more accurately “this is reminiscent of the synesthesia and mental chaos of infancy, existing as a newly formed mind without much programming holding things together.”
It fascinates me to consider that this primordial state of deprogrammed mind may hold possibilities that cannot be accessed with more developed minds. Do our conceptions and mental processes that allow us to function in the world also cause us to ignore other parts of reality?
Personally, I believe it floods the Human/animals system dissolving hemispherical tendencies thus relieving symptoms of the human condition – conflict.
We meet undefined self, a shapeless stranger who is utterly whole, in a moment inherently solving generational and ancestral trauma, which fundamentally-so makes us feel like coming home.
Interesting if these posited mechanisms were similar to those involved our sensation of owning our own thoughts or actions, which appear disrupted in “made” actions or thoughts in psychosis.
I have experienced the “machine elves” myself, well before McKenna wrote about them- they seemed very familiar, like deceased relatives, or entity’s I knew before birth. Further, there are protolinguistic phenomena such as a deep feeling of familiarity of bizarre non English words and phrases - as if our minds were forming patterns from the sounds we heard in utero, and imagining characters outside .
Agree. Kinda. Not memories but taking one back to a similar mental framework as infancy without all the accumulated programming.
And I think that holds interesting possibilities. Do the frameworks we overlay on mental processes to become functional human adults cause us to ignore or reject other parts of our reality?
Lol the entity is probably a true little green man locked in a chamber dreaming and manifesting all of reality and our existence. We are real and it is real and we are interdependent with it. It in fact is probably our conscious matrix we call reality. Lmao, let the imagination flow and definitely continue the studies. I ate 8 hits of bloder once and stood in the garden of Eden. I felt like I was there before but I wouldn't know what would happen on DMT. I might see the unity of one during the days of the hive tower mentioned in Genesis. Anyway having access to the higher dimensions of space will take us beyond the quantum vacuum into other realities. Obviously I'm a little out there but look at what psychedelics do to the brain and how they effect the mind.
Bingo, that’s the way I see it too. They’re real as much as we are and sometimes we humans trespass into their neck of the woods. Often they’ll be confused for a bit but chill about it rather quickly. Sometimes they say you’re not supposed to be here and basically kick you out. It’s a fun ride.
I have a theory, but it's a little out there lol. So the entities going in and out of the oceans are what ancient people said were the fallen angels or bad ones who mess with us. And the ones coming from the moon or space, aka the heavens, are the good ones. Lol and since sound is a powerful force and our brains send out microwave frequencies and pick up on them our level of awareness based on our genetic structure allows to answer each other without know. Plus they can hear us because their genetic structure (code) is better than ours because their truly a hive mind. Lol God said they're becoming too much like us, we need to separate them, aka genetic recoding . Anyway that's a little of the theory.
I was trying to figure out what you meant by 'bloder' then I realized that you probably meant blotter acid, which I did one hit one time a long time ago and all I saw were trails. It would be cool if this could be real, something we could believe in.
That is a common experience! Holding space for 50+ DMTx sessions now, this is often expressed. Also though, is the feeling that time folds in on itself or is somehow and tangibly non linear. I’ve wondered if this sensation, contributes to the feeling of familiarity. DreamMindLabs can let one experience the DMT space for hours

Yes. Essentially eating beans to trigger a brain fart.

Awesome! Thanks for the fascinating article.

Cool!
Speculation- these are prenatal, womb experience memories
I’ve wondered that myself.

Yeah I misspelled it lol
That's ok, none of us are perfect lol
It's Shadow/CHILDHOOD Intergration. The "All of a Sudden" nature doesn't allow for it to hold.
This does!

Something that came to mind recently, as though remembered.

We live but on the surface
Of the advancing past.
And when we are gone,
We have all of every past
In which to roam and play.
Such is the nature of memory,
Of which all things are made.
