Sounds like she is saying that “consciousness” can be thought of as “sentience” and does not require “sapience.” Something I’ve always accepted without really thinking much about it. Thinking deeply about that is wild, though. If more people thought this way there would be a massive outpouring of empathy. It’s one thing to imagine what another human is experiencing and something several levels greater to put yourself in the “shoes” of an earthworm.
I’m curious about when subjective experience of consciousness will be rendered significant in consciousness research. Seems like the states and qualities of consciousness we can agree on match the limits of our attention span for creative objective research. What if we began to be interested and curious about how our subjective experience could expand and explore, freed from ‘objective’ and established beliefs. On a quantum level, the cellular life of my ‘conscious’ brain and the cellular life of the earthworm are the same. Wouldn’t this suggest that the consciousness is inherent in the particles, rather than the wetware? We might sense this directly if we developed the subjective perception. Sounds like fun to me!
First of all, this is awesome!

Study of consciousness is always fascinating.
