Maybe, just maybe the USA should spend more on healthcare, education and infrastructure and a whole lot less on useless military and wars! Just saying...
Dare I say that this problem is pretty much worldwide. Due to complexity, the power grid of the future will have to be digital-first and have BESS as a core part of grid infrastructure.
In sizing the problem you say that electricity usage will grow 2% YOY through 2030. You then say "The U.S. power grid is already enormous, yet transmission systems will still need to double or triple by 2050 to reliably meet growing demand." But 2% YOY for the next 25 years only results in a total growth rate of 64%, NOT double or triple.
So part of the problem is that power company’s charge solar power homes that actually produce extra power that is fed back into the utility a monthly fee. And then in those months when we call for electricity from the grid they charge us much more for this electricity then they pay us for the extra we produce!! (Which rate, btw is at much lower rates then it costs them to produce electricity!). Talk about unfair practices and disincentives to encourage homeowners from going solar and cut down on drawing power from the grid!!! Power companies exist to make money to pay their top executives lots of money— not the average worker mind you!!! And public utility commissions are a hoax! They only exist to get their members kickbacks, favors and trips from the power companies they supposedly regulate!
Not all states permit unfettered buybacks of the electrical surplus by local power plants. Florida applies such limits. MO also puts limits on this process.
Well, as long as the AI 'assistants' are indifferent to shutting down their own datacenters to keep the public's homes with electricity.. it should be fine?

Great snapshot of the grid modernization needs.

No.
